His Journey to Chiropractic
Dr. Chad Updike didn’t stumble into chiropractic, he pursued it with the same precision and intention he brings to every adjustment. Born and raised in Trempealeau, WI, he earned his B.S. from UW-La Crosse before completing his Chiropractic degree at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA. With over 400 hours of advanced training in the Gonstead System and almost 20 years in practice, Dr. Updike has invested deeply in mastering one of the most specific and thorough chiropractic techniques available. The Gonstead approach is built on detailed analysis and accurate, targeted adjustments, and for Dr. Updike, that level of precision isn’t optional, it’s the standard.
That commitment to doing things right extends well beyond the clinic. Dr. Updike has served on the board of the Chiropractic Society of Wisconsin for the better part of a decade, including a term as President, and continues to serve on the board today. In that role he has led strategic initiatives, lobbied at the state capitol on behalf of patients and providers, and worked to raise the standard of chiropractic care across Wisconsin. He’s also a member of the International Chiropractic Association and has completed an international Clinic Abroad service trip in Hyderabad, India, bringing chiropractic care to patients who otherwise had little access to it. It’s the kind of service that doesn’t show up on a patient’s X-ray, but it reflects the character of the doctor they’re trusting with their care.
Athletes, Active Families, and the 55+ Community
Dr. Updike’s patient population tells you a lot about who he is. As the Team Chiropractor for the Holmen High School football team, he works directly with student-athletes on injury prevention, performance optimization, and return-to-play protocols after injury. His advanced training in concussion management means he can properly evaluate head injuries and guide athletes through a structured, step-by-step recovery, not just clear them and hope for the best.
That passion for athletic care is personal. His son Mack and daughter Ellie are both high-level athletes themselves, giving Dr. Updike firsthand insight into what young athletes and their families go through. Whether he’s working with a varsity football player or a weekend warrior just trying to stay active, he brings the same level of attention to every case.
He brings that same careful approach to his large population of patients aged 55 and older. Decreased mobility, joint stiffness, balance concerns, and chronic pain are not inevitable, they’re problems with solutions. Dr. Updike provides gentle, precise Gonstead adjustments tailored to each patient’s needs, with a clear goal: keep them active, independent, and doing what they love for as long as possible.
Outside the Clinic
When he’s not adjusting patients or representing Wisconsin chiropractors at the capitol, Dr. Updike is almost certainly somewhere on the sidelines. He’s a devoted husband and proud father to Mack and Ellie, both high-level athletes in their own right, and most of his family’s weekends are spent traveling for youth baseball, basketball, football, and gymnastics. His firsthand experience as a sports parent gives him a perspective on active families that goes beyond clinical training.
When the tournament schedule allows it, Dr. Updike heads outdoors to his family’s hunting land, his self-described happy place. In recent years, his son has taken over as the one pulling the trigger, which means Dr. Chad spends his time on food plots, stand placement, and everything else that improves their odds when deer season arrives. It’s the kind of methodical, patient preparation that probably sounds familiar to anyone who’s watched him work through a Gonstead analysis.
