How Chiropractic Found Dr. Katie

Dr. Katie Updike grew up in Galesville, WI, and knew she wanted to be a chiropractor before she could fully explain what one did. As a little girl, she would tag along to her dad’s chiropractic appointments after he suffered a cervical disc herniation. She didn’t understand all the details at the time, but she understood the result: he was getting his life back. That stayed with her.

After earning her Exercise Science degree from UW-La Crosse, she headed to Palmer College of Chiropractic – the fountainhead of the profession – and graduated summa cum laude in 2015. Graduation wasn’t the finish line. She has since completed hundreds of hours of additional training through the Gonstead Methodology Institute and continues attending seminars and collaborating with other Gonstead doctors because, in her words, sharpening her skills is part of her responsibility to her patients. She is also Webster Certified, allowing her to provide safe, specific, and gentle care for pregnant mothers – one of her absolute favorite patient populations.

Athletes, Moms, and the Nervous System

Dr. Katie has a deep passion for working with athletes. As a longtime gymnastics coach and current President of the Board for Blue Angels Gymnastics Club, she understands what it takes to keep young competitors healthy, confident, and on the floor. Helping athletes recover faster, prevent injuries before they happen, and walk out of the office stronger than they walked in is, in her words, one of the best parts of the job.

Becoming a mother deepened her belief in chiropractic in ways no textbook could. She works with a lot of moms – the ones carrying the mental load, running on fumes, and operating in constant fight-or-flight mode. When her own nervous system is out of balance, she feels it everywhere: less patient, more reactive, flustered at home and distracted at work. She knows she’s not alone in that. Helping moms regulate their nervous systems so they can be more present, more grounded, and more joyful at home is one of the most rewarding things she does.

Her Philosophy

Dr. Katie doesn’t believe in settling for “fine.” No pain doesn’t automatically mean healthy – real health is built intentionally through nutrition, movement, mindset, recovery, and a nervous system that’s functioning the way it was designed to. Her job isn’t to fix anyone. It’s to remove interference so the body can do what it was brilliantly built to do: heal and perform.

Outside the Clinic

Dr. Katie is wife to Kyle – owner of Dirt Pro Excavating – and mom to Rylee, Bowen, and Kade. If you spend enough time at the office, there’s a good chance at least one of them will come through it. The family also includes three golden retrievers – Tank, Zoey, and Bailey – which means home is loud, busy, chaotic, and exactly the way she wants it.
